Every part of a life can have a sound.
My name is Jennifer, and My Mistaken Melody is my artist name.
I’m a Gen X songwriter and creative director from San Antonio, Texas. My songs begin with something true—something I’ve lived, felt, witnessed, questioned, survived, or needed to say.
I’m a mother who adopted a sibling set of four from foster care and a longtime military spouse who lived through deployments, homecomings, uncertainty, and the constant adjustment military family life requires. Those experiences shaped my values: loyalty, resilience, truth, inclusion, and making room for people to feel what they feel.
My catalog holds motherhood, marriage, grief, boundaries, healing, reinvention, and the complicated work of finding myself again. Sometimes that becomes a quiet song about loss or emotional growth. Sometimes it becomes the bass-heavy confidence of a woman who once danced in Chicago clubs and now drives a minivan through San Antonio. Sometimes it becomes Beach Vibes, inspired by the peace I find along the Texas coastline with the people I love.
How the music is made
Every My Mistaken Melody song begins with a real experience, emotion, observation, or idea. I write and revise the lyrics while shaping the cadence, structure, vocal delivery, instrumentation, emotional arc, and overall direction of the song. I use AI-assisted production tools to help bring that creative vision to life.
The technology is part of how the music is produced—it isn’t the identity behind it. The stories, decisions, and emotional intention are mine.
